Miller, ao comentar essa afirmação de Lacan, indica que ela é a amiga do real. Essa pesquisa sobre A beleza que vela o feminino, fundamentada na obra de Freud, no ensino de Lacan, de J.-A. Miller e em alguns textos de seus comentadores, redundou na proposta de que há uma afinidade entre Ⱥ mulher e o atributo da beleza, ou seja, a beleza como um recurso para ser identificada ao falo, na tentativa de escamotear sua castração.
